The Lange 1 Daymatic by A. Lange & Söhne is the self-winding alternative to the classic hand-wound Lange 1. While the two models share a similar aesthetic, the Daymatic is immediately recognisable thanks to its mirrored asymmetrical dial layout.
Introduced in 2010, the Daymatic positions the hours and minutes on the right-hand side of the dial, with the subsidiary seconds and the outsize date on the left.
Unlike the original Lange 1, the Daymatic replaces the power-reserve indicator with a retrograde day-of-the-week display along the left edge of the dial.
This calendar function complements the signature outsize date and further distinguishes the model within the Lange 1 family.
Today, for the first time, the Daymatic is presented with a case in 750 honey gold, paired with the warm tones of a brown 925-silver dial, in an exclusive limited edition of just 250 pieces.
The launch date of the new Lange 1 Daymatic Honeygold carries particular significance. On 7 December 1845, Ferdinand Adolph Lange laid the foundation of German precision watchmaking in Glashütte.
It is also the date of the bold new beginning undertaken by his great-grandson Walter Lange in 1990, following German reunification.
The case of the Lange 1 Daymatic Honeygold displays balanced proportions and harmonious lines. With a diameter of 39.5 millimetres and a height of 10.4 millimetres, it sits comfortably on the wrist and slips easily beneath a shirt cuff.
Subtle refinements to the lugs and bezel lend the watch a distinctive lightness.
The dial features several expressive details, including a slightly recessed hour and minute circle that enhances the three-dimensional effect.
The outsize date appears in white numerals against a brown background, matching the tone of the dial.
Visible through the transparent sapphire crystal, the automatic manufacture calibre L021.1 is finely finished. Its architecture draws on traditional design principles and supports precise adjustment and assembly.
Notably, four separately screwed plates visually form a classic three-quarter plate in the fully assembled movement.
Plates and bridges are crafted from untreated German silver. It features an indexless oscillation system based on a large balance wheel with eccentric poising weights and an in-house manufactured balance spring.
Efficient winding and a steady delivery of energy are ensured by a large central rotor that spans the entire diameter of the movement. Its central segment, in 875 gold (21 carats), is engraved with the A. Lange & Söhne signature, while the outer mass is made of 950 platinum.
Operating at a frequency of 4 Hz (28,800 vibrations per hour), the movement provides a power reserve of 50 hours.
The Lange 1 Daymatic Honeygold (ref. 320.050) by A. Lange & Söhne is fitted with a taupe-coloured, hand-stitched alligator leather strap secured by a solid honey gold buckle. The price is available upon request. alange-soehne.com
