Seiko continues to develop the King Seiko VANAC collection with the introduction of two new references that, for the first time within the line, are fitted with leather straps. This addition brings a warmer and more elegant interpretation to the VANAC design.
Originally launched in 1972, the King Seiko VANAC stood out for its bold aesthetic, characterised by vivid colours and faceted surfaces. The new King Seiko VANAC models maintain the audacity of the original while updating the overall style to contemporary codes.
The 41 mm x 14.3 mm stainless steel case retains its sharp lines and bezel-less profile. It is equipped with a screw-down crown that contributes to ensuring water resistance up to 10 ATM (100 metres / 330 feet).
Protected by a box-shaped sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating on the inner surface, the dial is defined by horizontal stripes. The applied hour markers sit within a dedicated circular zone integrated into the dial surface, reinforcing the watch’s sculptural and dynamic appearance.
A distinctive “V” motif appears both at 12 o’clock and on the counterweight of the seconds hand—a visual signature that identifies the VANAC series. The hands and hour markers are filled with Lumibrite luminescent material for improved legibility in low-light conditions.
The dials of the two models differ in colour: the SLA093 features a rich brown tone evoking wood and earth, while the SLA095 adopts a deep green inspired by Tokyo’s lush metropolitan parks.
A key novelty of these references is the leather strap, designed to integrate seamlessly with the case and enhance wearing comfort. The folded strap tip is concealed on the inside, and a triple-fold clasp with push-button release secures the watch to the wrist.
The leather, whose colour is carefully matched to the dial, is sourced from tanneries certified by the Leather Working Group, reflecting Seiko’s attention to quality materials and responsible practices.
Visible through the transparent sapphire crystal caseback, the new Caliber 8L45 operates at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz). Seiko’s proprietary Spron alloy is used for both the mainspring and balance spring, ensuring durability and resistance to rust and wear.
A longer, thinner mainspring delivers a 72-hour power reserve. Its accuracy ranges from +10 to -5 seconds per day when worn within a temperature range of 5 °C to 35 °C.
The new King Seiko VANAC SLA093J1 and SLA095J1 models have a suggested retail price of €3,300. seikowatches.com
