The origins of the Saxon manufacture date back to 1845, when Ferdinand A. Lange, an exceptionally talented watchmaker from Dresden, established his own workshop and began producing high-quality pocket watches.
After the Second World War, the company was expropriated during the Soviet occupation in 1948, and the name A. Lange & Söhne gradually faded into obscurity.
Fortunately, Ferdinand A. Lange’s great-grandson, Walter Lange, together with his friend and business partner Günter Blümlein, then managing director of IWC and Jaeger-LeCoultre, had the vision and determination to revive the brand.
Following the reunification of Germany, they founded Lange Uhren GmbH in Glashütte on 7 December 1990 and re-registered the A. Lange & Söhne name worldwide, marking the first step in restoring its watchmaking tradition.
Unveiled in 1994, the Lange 1 became the most recognisable timepiece created by A. Lange & Söhne and remains the emblem of the Saxon brand.
