Bovensiepen, the new brand created by the family behind Alpina, has introduced the 05 GT, a performance-focused estate based on the BMW M5 Touring. The new model effectively takes over the role once held by the Alpina B5 and brings with it a more powerful plug-in hybrid setup, chassis enhancements and a redesigned exterior. The styling has been developed by Frank Stephenson Design, headed by renowned automotive designer Frank Stephenson, whose portfolio includes cars such as the original modern Mini, Ferrari F430 and McLaren P1. Rather than completely reinventing the M5 Touring, the design team concentrated on refining its shape and proportions to give the car a more elegant and purposeful appearance.Work was focused on areas such as the front fascia, side skirts, rear bumper and spoiler. Up front, the air intakes have been visually combined into a broader and more cohesive layout, helping the car appear lower and wider. Revised details and larger wheels further enhance its road presence. The profile has also been reworked with the addition of an air channel ahead of the rear wheels, linking the broader rear arches with the side sills and creating a smoother flow. A black accent running around the car ties together the front, side and rear sections while visually reducing the bulk of the body.Changes at the back are aimed at delivering a cleaner overall look. Components such as parking sensors and reflectors have been neatly incorporated into a dark trim strip, while the four exhaust outlets have been positioned closer to the outer edges to emphasize the car’s width. The titanium Akrapovic exhaust system is around 8kg lighter than the standard stainless-steel unit.Interior & PersonalisationInside, the cabin architecture remains largely unchanged from the M5 Touring, although customers can extensively tailor the interior. A variety of leather, Alcantara and trim combinations are available, along with handcrafted Lavalina upholstery and personalised headrest detailing.Performance & PowertrainPower comes from BMW’s 4.4-litre twin-turbocharged S68 V8 plug-in hybrid engine, which has been upgraded with a revised intake and the new Akrapovic exhaust. Combined output has increased to 801hp and 1,100Nm, compared with 727hp and 1,000Nm in the regular M5 Touring. The electric motor remains unchanged and continues to contribute up to 198hp. Electric driving range is also similar to the standard model, with around 56km possible under real-world conditions.Bovensiepen says the 05 GT is capable of sprinting from 0-100kph in less than 3.6 seconds and can reach a top speed of 306kph. Despite the extensive modifications, kerb weight stands at 2,555kg, which is only about 5kg more than the standard M5 Touring.Mechanical upgrades extend beyond the powertrain. The suspension setup features recalibrated adaptive dampers, Eibach springs and additional chassis bracing. According to the company, the changes are intended to improve comfort while preserving the performance characteristics of the M5. The car also gets specially developed Pirelli tyres and custom 21-inch forged wheels at all four corners.Production & PricingDue to the labour-intensive nature of the build process, production will be limited to around 100 cars per year at Bovensiepen’s facility in Buchloe, Germany. At launch, the 05 GT will be offered exclusively in Touring form.First customer deliveries are scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2026. Pricing starts at €198,900 (approximately Rs 1.98 crore), excluding options.
