The Awakening Lion is a representative figure of the Southern Lion tradition in Chinese lion dance culture. This art form, which was listed among China’s first national intangible cultural heritage items in 2006, integrates martial arts, dance and music. Fashion designer Zhang Kejia brought this cultural symbol to the runway at this year’s Beijing Fashion Week.
