Yellow gold can turn skin black because of a chemical reaction between skin oils, sweat of cosmetics and copper or silver alloys mixed into the yellow gold. The reaction may be worse with 10 or 14 karat gold than or with rose gold due to the higher copper content. Dr. Lacy Anderson recommends cleaning your jewelry frequently in soapy water or with a cleaning solution. Be reassured this isn’t a dangerous reaction. Dr. Anderson says to be sure to wash your hands before putting on your rings. It could be a reaction with your hand creams causing this.
