YUBA CITY, Calif. – The Yuba City Police Department is investigating a robbery that took place at a jewelry store on Sunday afternoon.Authorities say that at around 1:02 p.m. on Sunday, officers from the Yuba City Police Department responded to the 400 block of Palora Avenue in Yuba City after receiving multiple 911 calls reporting a robbery in progress at a jewelry store.According to the Yuba City Police Department, three masked robbers who were armed with hammers stormed into the store, smashing the display cases and stealing jewelry. A fourth accomplice waited outside in a getaway vehicle.During the robbery, the owner of the jewelry store suffered minor injuries after being struck in the chest with a hammer.A witness played a critical role in the incident by following the suspects’ vehicle and giving real-time updates to authorities. The suspects eventually abandoned the vehicle in the area of Richland Road and Estates Drive and ran away on foot.Law enforcement, aided by the use of a drone, were able to locate and detain two of the suspects who were found hiding in a residential yard. The remaining two suspects were not located and are believed to have fled from the area.32-year-old Maurice Lee Jackson of Oakland was arrested by authorities after being found hiding. Jackson was transported to and booked into the Sutter County Jail on charges of robbery and assault.The second arrest involved a juvenile. The juvenile suspect was transported to and booked into the Tri-County Youth Development Center in connection to the robbery.The Investigations Unit of the Yuba City Police Department responded to the scene and assumed the investigation. As the investigation progressed, it was learned that the getaway vehicle was reported stolen from Oakland earlier in the day.Back at the jewelry store, the owner reported to authorities a theft of approximately $1 million in gold jewelry. Some of the stolen gold jewelry was located and recovered from the abandoned getaway vehicle.The Yuba City Police Department says the investigation into the robbery is ongoing.
