KLICKITAT COUNTY, Wash. – As heavy rain and snowfall continues to hit the Cascades, officials in Klickitat County are warning that some areas near streams may flood, and roads may be impassable.According to the Klickitat County Sheriff’s Office, the National Weather Service in Pendleton, Oregon has issued a flood watch for parts of Klickitat County. The NWS said the Klickitat River near the community of Pitt is expected to reach minor flood stage on the morning of December 19 before receding on December 20. Other rivers and streams in the east foothills of the Cascades are expected to see rises through Friday into Saturday before returning to normal levels. Low-lying areas along rivers and streams may experience flooding due to heavy rain and snow in the mountains.The Klickitat County Department of Emergency Management encouraged residents to stay on top of conditions in their area and to keep an ear out for forecasts and warnings. Residents threatened by floodwaters are urged to call KCDEM’s 24-hour dispatch phone line at 509-773-4545.Klickitat County officials urge residents not to try to drive through flood water It may be deeper and faster moving than it appears.
